A congratulations card is a chance to recognise both the result and the effort behind it. Name the milestone accurately, acknowledge something the person brought to it, and leave room for their own feelings about what comes next. Small personal achievements deserve the same thoughtful attention as public awards or formal occasions.
Make it personal
Celebrate their effort, not a comparison
Mention persistence, creativity or courage you actually saw. Avoid comparing them with a sibling or colleague, and do not suggest the achievement was easy. If you are unsure of a job title or qualification, check it before adding it.
Leave the next chapter open
Offer a warm wish without prescribing the next goal. Someone finishing a difficult project may want rest before another challenge. Keep news that has not been announced publicly out of a greeting intended for wider sharing.
